Makapuu Lighthouse - *

Length-1.9 / This is not a hike, but more like a walk on a continuous gradual incline to the peak of the hill. From the top you can get great views of the ocean, and maybe see some whales if in season. You'll definately need a hat or sunblock as there is sparse cover from the sun. It is a paved path all the way up, but is still a good workout. There are some scattered old war bunkers and the lighthouse itself to see, although most are gated off from the public due to their conditions. For some this may be a boring hike so if you want a little more excitement try this side trail. As you head up you'll run into stationary binoculars. Going over the wall on the right you'll notice a path leading down to the bottom of the cliffs. These trails are not part of the Lighthouse and the difficulty rating is about-***. Going down the paths in areas are steep with loose rocks and a long drop down. Proceed with caution if you go down, but at the bottom are nice little tide pools to relax and cool off. Be aware of the ocean conditions, if the waves are big it might not be a good idea. The Lighthouse trail can be completed within an hour.
