In Central Oahu

Manoa Falls - *

Length-0.8 / A few hills, but nothing too bad. You may want some kind of repellant for mesquitos when in season. It can get pretty humid and crowded. Also muddy when it rains. This trail doesn't take that long to complete, with a good pace you can make the round trip well within half an hour. It's $5 for parking, or if you can find street parking. At the finale there's a 100-ft waterfall, but I don't think you can go swimming.

Pacific Palisades - ***1/2

Length-3.2 / This isn't that hard except for one infamous hill (a.k.a. Heart Attack Hill). Going down this hill will get your legs nice and shaky but, before you get there is a good stretch of path leading down from the street out to a point where you can either go right or left. Take the left and follow the trail markers all the way down untill you get to the big hill. Don't wear anything nice as this trail is almost always muddy, and alot of people have fallen on their butts. Getting to the end you will find a great waterfall with ice cold water to swim in or dive in from rocks. Remember to save some energy to make it back up the hill. This hike can take a few hours, and try to go a day after it's been raining.

Waimano Home Trail - **

Length-2.2 / A nice and easy trail, good for begginers. It will take you in a loop around Waimano Valley. At the entrance you can choose to start from the top or go straight down to the bottom. Whichever way you choose make sure you follow the markers to stay in the loop or you'll end up on the much longer Waimano Ridge trail. A few extra things you may want is mesquito repellant, and a flashlight if you choose to go through the tunnels. If it has been raining there are some muddy patches. Also keep in mind that if you choose to do the longer trail the difficulty rating changes and the area at times can be more sketchy. The loop can be completed in an hour or so, but since there are alot of great locations on the top to stop and look maybe 2 hours.

Dinosaur Back - **1/2

Length-0.4 / This may be a very short trail, but it gets you up to a nice elevation in a very short amount of space. Also, expect to be in the sun a lot as there is not too much cover until you get to the top. This trail offers a good view of Palolo Valley and the two mountain ranges on either side of you. You will also need to do some minor rock climbing. Remember to bring water.

St. Louis Trail - ***

Length-2.4 / A good trail with lots of nice views. This trail is not too easy or hard, and has lots of nice places you can stop for lunch. Some hazzards you may want to watch for are-strong wind gusts, loose or slippery rocks, and sudden rain showers. There are a few steep areas, but nothing to major. Be sure to check the gate times because they lock up the parking lot at evening.

Diamond Head Trail - **

Length-0.8 / More like a tourist attraction they charge you a few dollars to walk through the gate or $5 to drive in. In addition, you may find the trail a bit over-crowded, and get frustrated feeling like your in a long line at disneyland. It is also a dry hot area, and depending on the time of the day very little shade. However, not everything about this trail is negative. You can find a lot of history of millitary activity, and at the summit are great views off the Diamond Head coast. To get there though, it is a constant uphill hike including, a tunnel and a few staircases totaling 279 steps. Overall, not the best hike but, should be experienced at least once.
